Three Tips for Your First Spin Class

Bernie Mermelstein serves as CEO and owner of MZ Berger & Co., a family-owned timepiece manufacturer, designer, and retailer. Bernie Mermelstein enjoys staying fit by going to spin class.

Spin class can provide a valuable cardio workout as well as strength training through resistance. If you are thinking of joining your first spin class, here are some basics to keep in mind:

1. Get there early to claim a good bike. If the gym offers online reservations, reserve a bike beforehand to ensure you have something to ride during class.

2. Ask for help setting up and adjusting your bike. If this is your first spin class, the instructor will be able to assist you in finding the perfect position for your seat and handlebars.

3. Lower the resistance when you need a breather. Though resistance is key to a good spin workout, nobody will judge you for lowering it. Just be sure to add more resistance once you are ready to get back into it.
